Released on : 15 May 2006 UTC 22:00 SVN Build 3515
Here you will be able to download and find information about Joomla! 1.0.9 Beta 2. 1.0.9 Beta 2 represents roughly 90 - 95% of what will become 1.0.9 Stable We appreciate any and all assistance in stress testing 1.0.9 Beta 2 to allow us to ensure 1.0.9 Stable is indeed rock solid. In fact it is for this very reason that we have made this Beta available to the community. Please remember that the aim is to test how close/far 1.0.9 Beta 2 is to release as 1.0.9 Stable. This represents the first public Beta of a Stability Release being mde available to the community. This is being done in the hope that this will lead to far more rigorous testing, prior to a Stable Release being packaged and released to the public. Please note that this release is targetted more at the Development Community rather than the general public and is being made to assist our release process.
Download
1.0.9 Beta 2 is only available as a Full Package release - which means
that it contains all core files, including those not modified during
the 1.0.9 Stability & Security work conducted. Thus there are no Patch packages containing only the changed files, like what would be available in the Stable release. Please note that this means that package also includes the /installation/ folder
* Warning *
As this is a Beta release, users are advised NOT to use on a 'live' or production site. Should you do so, you do so at your own risk and you should take suitable precautionary measures. You should BACKUP both your sites database and files. If
you are fairly new to this whole process and lack the technical
knowledge to fix any problems that may occur in using Beta code, than
you should NOT be using this release and should wait for the official
1.0.9 Stable Release. 1.0.9 Stable Release Schedule
So when will 1.0.9 stable be released? The simple answer is that there is NO set date for its release, It will all depend and be dictated by how 1.0.9 Beta 2 fairs during the testing process. We
of course have an internal target date and are just as keen as the
community to see it released as soon as practical, but we also want to
ensure and maintain the quality of release without having to be
constrained by trying to meet a rigid public target date. However, we do not forsee the process taking any longer than 2 weeks at the maximum. Bug ReportingIf
you experience a bug in 1.0.9 Beta 2, can you please indicate that you
are using 1.0.9 Beta 2 when reporting the possible bug. Bug reporting
can be made in the following 2 places: Please remember to provide as much detail about the bug report as possible. Upgrading from 1.0.9 Beta 2
Please reading the `Warning` statement above. As 1.0.9 Beta 2 is a test release, there will be NO official support for upgrading from 1.0.9 Beta 2 to 1.0.9 Stable. However,
the process should be as simple as using the 1.0.9 Stable Full package
or 1.0.8 to 1.0.9 Patch Package when they become available. Installing 1.0.9 Beta 2 on an existing siteSince there are no changes to the Database (as in other 1.0.x releases)
you merely need to overwrite your sites files with the new 1.0.9 Beta 2
files. There are 2 methods available:
- Unzip
the Package file on your local computer. Then transfer all the files
accross to your web server with an FTP client, setting to overwrite all
existing files.
- If your web server has an web management panel
like Plesk or Cpanel the process is even quicker. Upload the tar.gz
package version to your webserver in your sites root directory and in
your web management panels file manager there is an option to extract
the package file. This will automatically extract files from the
package and overwrite any existing files.
Note, that the
package includes the /installation/ folder and you should not transfer
it in method 1. or delete it later in method 2.
