Joomla! is available open-source under the GPL license. It has dependencies on other PHP libraries. There are a couple of ways you can get it:
Option 1. Download Joomla! 1.0
Information about the latest stable release of Joomla! can be found here:
1.0.x Version Information
Note : If you are migrating from Mambo 4.5.2 to Joomla 1.0 you can find useful information here.
Option 2. Latest versions
The current release can be downloaded from JoomlaCode. It is advisable to use the nightly builds or the latest svn code for testing purposes.
Option 3. Nightly Builds
Development of Joomla! moves fairly quickly and day-to-day things break as often as they are fixed. This high churn is part of our development process that aims to produce the most stable releases possible.
You can track changes through Subversion or on the web but many people choose to run the nightly builds to help us identify bugs. If you would like to be part of this process, please join the Testing and Quality forums.
The Testing and Quality forums are the only place appropriate for support on nightly builds, please do not use the other support forums.
Option 4. Subversion Access
We are using the advanced server version of GForge to maintain all projects that are related to Joomla!. This includes all the third party projects as well as our own projects.
Source Code Access Information
The Joomla! source code repository is run on a Subversion (SVN) server. When we get confused about Subversion we use this great Subversion book that's available for free online. Here are some quick tips for checking out and working with the Joomla! repository. 1. You will need a SVN client, like:
2. To checkout from the SVN, username 'anonymous' should be used with a blank password. 3. The following repositories are available:
After you get Joomla!
See the Joomla! Installation Guide for further instructions.
And be sure to sign up for the Joomla! forums, where other Joomla! users and the Joomla! developers themselves all hang out to help each other.
